HYDRA Future planning

Jeff Slater leaving HYDRA Sports in June, 2025

Jeff has been with HYDRA since inception in August, 2019. “I am retiring from a dream job at HYDRA and with ASD. I am so incredibly grateful for my time and experiences with HYDRA and, particularly, the staff we have built here. There are too many people to list here but our core since almost day 1 – Alex, Meica, Marouane, Jawad and Youssef – will always have a special place in my heart.”

Jeff and his wife will retire back home to Canada with plans to travel and relax after some very busy years. “We have worked hard to have this opportunity to take some time and enjoy the fruits of our labour.”

HYDRA has grown from a couple of hundred swimmers in the first term. COVID and other challenges impeded some development but the ASD vision of growing the sports offerings was finally realised in Fall, 2024. Now running football and basketball along with the original swim group there are more than 800 registered members. Jeff has been at the front of these changes through the past 6 years.

“This experience has transformed my life, but I’ve decided to retire from HYDRA and the sports industry. I understand the commitment required in my role and it’s an investment that I’m no longer driven to make. Time isn’t in endless supply and I want to spend mine in ways that are more personally meaningful.

“I leave with overwhelming gratitude for countless mentors and colleagues, athletes and parents, competitors and rivals. No one has benefitted more than me from the belief, trust and generosity of others.

“The past six years at HYDRA have been a particular privilege. I’m appreciative of the ASD leadership — especially former Aquatic Director Steve Shantz and Athletic Director Dave Farmer — for their support through the start up and development of HYDRA. No one has given more time and provided more support than my wife Marissa Amoroso and I am very much looking forward to being able to spend more time with her.”

Jeff will continue with HYDRA through to June, 2025. New leadership will have an opportunity to work with the fantastic staff in place at HYDRA. Announcements about staff changes will come in the new year. As always:

Go HYDRA Go!
